BCHR accepting applications for Support Workers

OVERVIEW: On behalf of participating regulatory colleges, BCHR is accepting applications for Support Workers. As a Support Worker, you will assist individuals in navigating a regulatory health college’s complaints process when those individuals have alleged that a regulated health practitioner has committed an act of sexual misconduct, sexual abuse, or discrimination.

This is an on-demand, contract role; support is provided at the request of the complainant.

Initial application deadline: March 1, 2026 (for Support Workers to be available when the HPOA comes into force on April 1, 2026). Applications will continue to be accepted on an on-going basis.


The Support Worker role is being developed to align with requirements in the Health Professions and Occupations Act (HPOA), new legislation that will come into force on April 1, 2026. The HPOA requires health regulatory colleges to offer the services of a Support Worker to individuals who have made a complaint to a college alleging that a regulated health practitioner has committed an act of sexual misconduct, sexual abuse, or discrimination.

In this role you will …

  • Support individuals in understanding regulatory complaint processes, procedural steps, and their participation requirements
  • Provide information and assistance that supports individuals’ participation in investigations or proceedings
  • Provide information respecting processes and the recipient’s rights and obligations under the Ombudsperson Act, the Patient Care Quality Review Board Actand the Judicial Review Procedure Act, where applicable
  • Facilitate access to relevant information, notices, records, and other process-related resources
  • Accompany individuals to required attendance, questioning, or proceedings where permitted
  • Support individuals with identifying and accessing appropriate external services, where needed
  • Raise process-related concerns where required under applicable legislation.

As a Support Worker, you will not be involved in investigating complaints, making findings, or advocating for any party.

Applicants must demonstrate the ability to perform the Support Worker role in accordance with the Health Professions and Occupations Act, and to operate effectively within regulatory complaint processes related to sexual misconduct, sexual abuse, or discrimination.
