Names Proposed for New Multi-Profession Colleges

On December 1, 2023, the BC Ministry of Health posted proposed amendments to the regulations of 11 colleges to reflect the proposed names for the two new multi-profession colleges effective June 28, 2024. The proposed names and the current colleges they represent are as follows.

The College of Complementary Health Professionals of BC — This is the proposed name for the college that will amalgamate:

  • The College of Chiropractors of BC
  • The College of Massage Therapists of BC
  • The College of Naturopathic Physicians of BC
  • The College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of BC

The College of Health and Care Professionals of BC — This is the proposed name for the college that will amalgamate:

  • The College of Dietitians of BC
  • The College of Occupational Therapists of BC
  • The College of Optometrists of BC
  • The College of Opticians of BC
  • The College of Physical Therapists of BC
  • The College of Psychologists of BC
  • The College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals of BC.

The Ministry of Health is directing these amalgamations as part of its multi-year initiative to modernize BC’s health profession regulatory framework, as outlined on their Professional Regulation webpage. This initiative is informed by the Cayton Report and the 2020 recommendations of the Steering Committee on Modernization of Health Professional Regulation.

Feedback on the proposed names can be submitted directly to the Ministry of Health until January 12, 2024, by emailing: PROREGADMIN@gov.bc.ca. The Ministry of Health is responsible for the decision on the colleges’ names.
